Ø Vice Admiral AR Karve is appointed as Flag officer Commanding in Chief of Southern Naval Command succeeding Vice Admiral Girish Luthra.

ØMary Robinson and Macharia Kamau have been appointed as United Nations Special envoys for El Nino and climate change. These envoys will provide leadership in tackling challenges and responses to climate change and El Nino effects to scale up humanitarian response in urgency.

Ø Ratan P Watal is appointed as Principal advisor of social sector in NITI Aayog(National Institution for Transforming India) for next 3 Years.


 Ø Kiran Bedi, former IPS officer has been appointed as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry according to Article 239.Kiran Bedi was the 1st Woman IPS officer in India.
Important Days

May 29
May 29th is celebrated as International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers to honor peacekeepers who have lost their lives for the cause of Peace. The theme for 2016 is “Honoring our Heroes”. Around 3,500 peacekeepers have lost there lives while serving under UN Flag.

States
Ø India and World Bank have inked USD 100 million loan agreement for Karnataka Urban water supply modernization. 4 components under this project are 1) Capital investment, 2) Institutional building 3) Technical Assistance for sector development, 4) Project maintenance addressed .
- Objectives of this 100 millions USD project are to provide city wide access to continuous piped water supply and strengthen the service delivery arrangements in cities. Initially the project will be implemented in Huballi- Dharwad twin cities

ØMs. Jayalalitha sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamilnadu for the record 6th time after winning 2016 elections.
 ØLakshadweep: 
Lakshadweep has become the 1st Union Territory(UT) in country to sign “24 X7 Power for All” agreement document. This document envisions (Meaning: possibility in future) for providing round the clock power supply to all households, agriculture, Industries etc. So far 22 States have singed this document.

ØNew CM of West Bengal
Mamata Benerajee (Didi) has sworn in as Chief Minister of West Bengal state for the 2nd consecutive term after winning recently held elections . With 42 ministers in her government , this Trinamool Congress(TMC) party leader rule the state next 5 years as 8th chief minister of the state.
- Earlier she served as Central minister of Railways 2 times, Minister of Coal and also Human Resource Development.
Ø New CM of Kerala
Pinaryi Vijayan, CPI leader has been elected as 12th Chief Minister(CM) of Kerala. Governor P Sathasiavam administered CM oath and his 18 ministers.

ØNational Investment & Manufacturing Zone in Odisha
A large 163 km2 area spread NIMZ(National Investment and Manufacturing Zone) is going to be set up in Kalinganagar, Odisha for which final approval has been given by Union Ministry of Commerce  industry and funds of 4241 Crore Rupees have been allotted to it.
- According to government, this NIMZ will create 1.5 lakh job opportunities and help Odisha to grow as a manufacturing hub.

ØSpringer Theses Award
Arnab De , an Indian- American scientist has won Springer These Award 2016 for his outstanding research on developing transgenic mice to study a critical tumor suppresser A 20. Springer Theses Award is given in recognition of Outstanding PhD research at International level .


Ø Scholastic Asian Book Award
Aditi Krishnakumar , an Indian author has won 2016 Scholastic Asian Book Award for her 32,000 words manuscript “Codex: The Lost Treasure of the Indus”. Scholastic Asian book Award is given once in Two years to promote reading and champion literary works of Asians , with a cash prize of 10,000 Singapore Dollars.

Ø“Harvard Alumni Achievement Award”
Sunil Bharti Mittal , CEO of Bharti Enterprises has received prestigious “2016 Harvard Business School Alumni Achievement Award” . His Company Bharti Enterprises is the largest telecom company in India and world’s 3rd largest mobile operator. All over the world he has more than 27.5 Crore customers base.

ØBee championship
3 Indian-American students have won the 28th edition of National Geographic “Bee championship” 2016 conducted in Washington, USA.
-1st position: Rishi Nair, 2nd position: Saketh Jonnalagadda and 3rd position: Kapil Nathan.

Ø Frances Arnold
2016 “Millennium Technology Prize” is won by “Frances Arnold” of USA in recognition of her discoveries mimic natural solution to create new and better proteins in the laboratory. She became the 1st women to receive this biennial(once in 2 years) award.
Ø Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim is conferred with “Yug Kavi Siddhicharan” which is Nepal’s prestigious literary award for his contribution in promoting Nepali literature in India.

Ø Pawan chamling has also received Chintan Puraskar in 1987, and Bhanu Puraskar in 2010 from Skikkim Sahitya Parishad.

National

ØIndian Railways
“Rail Humsafar Saptaah” a one week program organized by Indian Railways to highlight the significant achievements it has made . Starting from May 26th daily unique events will be organized till June 1st . They include 26th – Swachchta Diwas, 27th- Satkar Diwas, 28th- Sewa Diwas, 29th-Satarkata diwas, 30th – Saamanjasya Diwas, 31st- Sanyojan Diwas, June 1st – sanchaar Diwas.

Ø Stay on Reservation
Punjab and Haryana High Court has put Stay on the reservation Quota for Jats and other 5 communities in Haryana. Earlier Haryana government has provided reservation to these communities under newly carved Backward Class Act, 2016.

 IIT’s
6 new IIT’S are to be established in India after Institute of Technology ACT 1961 has been amended. These 6 IITs will be located at 1. Jammu and Kashmir 2.Bhilai(Chhattisgarh) 3.Goa 4.Palakkad(Kerala) 5.Dharwar(Karnataka) 6. Tirupati(Andhra Pradesh)

Ø Amendments in Constitution(Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 are approved by Central Cabinet which seeks to modify list of ST’s in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Tamilnadu and Tripura .

Ø Union government has decided to start ASMITHA, a student tracking programme from 2017. Under Shala Asmita Yojana(SAY) , All School Monitoring Individual Tracing Analysis (ASMITHA) would track the educational journey of students from Class 1 to Class 12 across 15 lakh schools of government and government aided schools in India.
- Under this, students Aadhaar numbers will be used to track the educational development , be it their attendance, enrollment, dropping out, mid day meals, toilets , infrastructure etc. in the form an online database.

Ø Intelligent Operations Centre(IOC) and ‘Monitor’ are launched in Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Pranab Mukherjee.

ØIOC is software which provides insights of the Rashtrapati Bhavan Estate by collecting rich data from several resources and ‘Monitor’ is mobile application which help residents and supervisors to collaborate in smarter way.

MoU’s

Ø Ministry of Railways and PEC University of Technology have signed MoU for setting up of “Kalpana Chawla Chair on Geospatial Technology” in memory of Indian-American Kaplana Chawla who was the 1st woman of Indian origin in space.

ØThe main objective of chair is to encourage research activities if Indian railways in Geo spatial technology.

Ø India and Australia have singed a MoU to enhance Research and Development capabilities in Biotechnology by initiating joint Fund. BIRAC from India and Horticulture innovation Australia have singed this MoU. A funding of 6 Million Australian Dollars( Around 29 Crore Rupees) is the commitment in this MoU from both parties.

Ø MoU is signed between Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) and United Arab Emirates Space Agency(UAESA) for cooperation in the exploration and user of outer space for peaceful purposes.

ØTourism Ministry’s of India and Maldives have signed MoU for cooperation in field of Tourism and is approved by Union Cabinet.

Inaugurations / Launch

Ø US based Technology giant , ‘Apple Inc’ has inaugurated its New Development centre in Hyderabad, Telangana by Apple CEO ‘Tim Cook’ . In this Development centre Apple will focus on development of Map’s technology for its flagship products including IPhone, Mac Book, Apple Watch etc.
-· On this occasion Apple Inc has also announced that it will open Ios App Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Ø Centre for Environmental health” , which assess the impact of environment related issues on Health has been launched in Capital New Delhi by Minister of Health and Family welfare J.P.Nadda.
-This is a joint imitative of Public Health Foundation of India,PHFI and Tata Institute of Social sciences,TISS.

ØSubmarine Assembly
State of the art “Submarine assembly workshop” is inaugurated at Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilder limited, Mumbai, Maharashtra. This is major step towards self sufficiency in the area of submarine construction of the Indian Navy.
Ø NZEB
Net Zero Energy Buildings(NZEB) portal was launched by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Indian Ministry of Power. This portal provides complete information about NZEB that generates as much energy as they consume which helps to achieve near Zero Energy status through efficient lighting and equipment and integration of renewable energy technologies.

Ø ‘Bharatvani’
Multilingual knowledge portal www.Bharatvani.in is launched by HRD Ministry as part of Government’s Digital India mission. This is first of it’s kind portal which will showcase culture and heritage to the world.

Sunriser’s Hyderabad (SRH) team has won IPL 9 title ( Indian Premier League) by defeating Royal challengers Bangalore(RCB) at Chinnaswamy Cricket stadium in Bangalore.

Ø Olympic Qualifiers
Disc thrower Seema Punia has qualified for 2016 Rio Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August. She is the 19th Indian track and field athlete to qualify for Rio Olympics. This qualification comes after she threw disc at 62.62 meters and winning Gold medal in the Pat Young’s throwers classic 2016 held in United States.

Ø Anurag Thakur is elected as 34th BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) President succeeding Shashank Manohar who was elected as ICC Chairman. Anurag Thakur is a MP from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.

R G Jadhav
RG Jadhav(83), a noted Marathi litterateur who served as Chief editor of ‘Marathi Vishwakosha’ has passed away in Mumbai on May 27th .His famous books list include, “Nilee Pahat”, “Baapu”, “Anandacha Doh” .

Ø Diwaliben Bhil, a veteran Gujarati folk singer who received Padma Shri award in 1991 for her contribution in Gujarati music has passed away on May 19, 2016.

Ø IDB
Islamic development Bank(IDB) is going to set up it’s first branch in India at Ahmadabad, Gujarat. This is as part of MoU between IDB and EXIM Bank in April 2016.

Ø New Policy
“National Capital Goods Policy 2016” is approved by union cabinet . This is India’s first ever policy for Capital goods sector by Union Government.

Ø State Bank of India(SBI) decided to merge it’s 5 associate public sector banks and BMB within itself and has informed BSE(Bombay stock exchange) that it is seeking in principal approval from Government.
- The 5 associate banks of SBI are 1. State Bank of Hyderabad 2. State Bank of Mysore 3. State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur 4. State bank of Travancore and 5. State Bank of Patiala. And also it’s completely Women employee bank , Bharatiya Mahila Bank(BMB)

Ø HDFC bank has launched SmartUp , which is a dedicated solution for Startup’s to fulfill all there banking requirements like banking and paying solutions, forex and advisory services, current account and waiver of average monthly balance for first 6 months.
- SmartUp is launched in collaboration with Mumbai based start up accelerator ‘Zone Startups India’

Ø India and Slovenia have agreed to amend bilateral DTAA (Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement). Sarvajit Chakravarthi ( Indian ambassador to Slovenia) and Dusan Mramor (Finance Minister of Slovenia) have signed this protocol. This will help to curb tax evasion by exchange of information between the two countries.

Ø Potassium bromate, Kbro3 which is widely used in bread making is found to be carcinogenic(Cancer causing) agent according to Centre for science and environment. Pottasium bromate and also potassium iodate were found to be triggering thyroid and cancer.

ØIn India May 21 is observed as Anti-Terrorism Day to spread awareness about dangers of terrorism and violence on people and society.

ØMay 22 is observed as International Day for Biological Diversity to promote conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. The theme of this year (2016) is “Mainstreaming Biodiversity; Sustaining People and their Livelihoods|

Ø A 5 member committee headed by NK Singh has been constituted to review and suggest recommendations on Fiscal responsibility and Budget Management route map for future, FRBM

ØThe 5 member committee includes Rathin Roy, Urjit Patel, Arvind Srubramanian, Sumit Bose and NK Singh. The committee will submit it’s report to Government by October 31st 2016.

Ø 11 members committee headed by Lt Gen D B Shekatkar has been constituted to recommend measure to re- balance overall defense expenditure and enhance combat capability .

Ø Tsai Ing-wen(59) has sworn in as President of Taiwan on May 20, 2016. She is the 1st female president and 14th President of Taiwan. Tsai Ing Wen is the leader of Democratic progressive party(DPP) .

Ø An Indian American professor, Rupa Iyer has been awarded with “Distinguished Leadership in Teaching Excellence” Award by University of Houston in United States for her sustained and significant contribution in the field on Teaching.

Ø Philip Abraham, an Indian Journalist who hails from Kerala has been elected as Deputy Mayor of Loughton in United Kingdom.Mr. Philib Abraham is editor of Kerala link.

Ø India and Oman have signed 4 MoU’s on defense cooperation and others during the visit of Defense minster Manohar Parikar in Oman. The 4 MoU’s are a) MoU in Defence cooperation b) MoU in Marine Crime Prevention c) MoU on Maritime Issues and d) MoU in Flight safety information Exchange.

Ø India , Iran and Afghanistan have signed historic 3-way land transmit agreement on Iran southern port ‘Chabahar’ which is strategically located in Sistan- Balochistan Province , on the energy rich Persian Gulf Nation’s south coast which can be easily accessed from Indiawestern coast bypassing Pakistan.

ØThis historic agreement is signed during Naredra Modi visit to Iran where Iran President Hassan Rouhani, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani and Modi together signed .

Ø Indian- American Sunil Sabharwal took charge as Alternate Executive Director at International Monetary Fund (IMF) . With this he became first Indian-American to occupy a key administration post at the IMF.

  Ø World's most expensive train station is opened at the 9/11 Site in New York, United States  It has been named "World Trade Center Transportation Hub". This train station is built to next to Twin Towers in New York which were destroyed in the terror attacks in 2001.

  Ø Bill Gates, Mricro Soft founder has retained the title of World's Richest Person  in Forbe's 30th Annual ranking of the world's billionaires 2016 list. This is his 17th time to top the list in last 23 years with a net worth of $75 Billion. 2nd Top most rich is Amancio Ortega(Italy) who is founder of clothing retail giant ZARA with net worth of $67 Billion.
    Ø Htin Kyaw (69) is elected as first civilian President  of Myanmar after 53 years of military rule.  He was candidate of National League of Democracy ( NLD) party and  was elected after securing 360 of the total 652 casted votes.
-Htin Kyaw is a close aide and adviser of Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi who is the leader of NLD party that has majority in the parliament

Ø Russian  Grand master, Sergey Karjakin has won FIDE World Chess Candidates Tournament held in Moscow by defeating American grandmaster Fabiano Caruana after scoring 8.5 points.
 

Ø Sergey Karjakin has record for World's youngest grand master  after qualifying for this title at age of 12 years 7 months.
Ø 2016 Hockey India Annual Awards  have been announced in Bengaluru  in which Late captain. Shankar Laxman was posthumously(After death) was chosen for the 2016 "Major Dhyan Chand Life time achievement award". worth 30 lakh rupees.  Shankar Laxman was a goal keeper and was part of Olympic medal winning teams in the years 1956 ( Gold medal in Melbourne ) , 1960 ( Silver medal in Rome) and 1964 ( Gold in Tokyo)

  Ø Martin Crowe(53) Former New Zealand Cricket Captain passed away after a long battle with cancer. He had played 77 test matches and scored 5444 runs  with highest score of 299 runs. he was captain of New Zealand team from 1990 to 1994.

  Ø Aaron Phangiso , South African Spinner has been suspended by ICC for illegal bowling action  as he was found bending his hand exceeding 15 degree level of tolerance permitted by ICC.

  Ø Mumbai U-23 team wins CK Nayudu Trophy 2015-2016  which is worth of 20 lakh rupees ..In the final match played at Holkar Stadium in Indore, Mumbai has defeated Madhya Pradesh team .

  Ø Jitu Rai won Gold Medal  in 50m Pistol  event at ISSF World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand.  He had scored 191.3 points in the final round beating Chinese Olympic team Pan Wei and Wang Zhiwei
    Ø Lin Dan from China has won the All England Badminton 2016  title  in men's single category. In teh final match played at Birmingham , he defeated teammate Tian Houwei by 21-9,21-10 score.
      -         In women's singles category  Nozomi Okuhara( Japan) won the title by defeating Wang Shixian ( china) .
Ø Services team has won the 70th Santosh football Championship title 2016 by defeating host Maharashtra in the final match.
 -         This is service team 5th time win this title after 1961,2012,2013 and 2015.

 Ø BHEL  (Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited) , a public sector power equipment manufacturing company  has commissioned (bring into working condition) 2nd 40MW " hydro power"  generating unit at the 'Teesta low dam hydro electric project stage IV in  Darjeeling district of West Bengal .The estimated annual power generation form the project is around '720 million unites'
 Ø Haryana State Assembly has unanimously passed Haryana Backward Classes ( Reservation in services and admission in educational institutions ) Bill 2016 . This bill aims to provide reservation to people belonging to Backward classes including ' JATS'  and 5 other castes .
o   Jats, Jat Sikhss, Ror, Bishnoi, Tyagi and Muslim jat have been included in Block C of  three divisions of Backward classes ( Block A , Block B, Block C) . With this bill 10% reservation  will be provided to theses castes for Class III & IV government posts. and 6% reservation in class 1 and 2 posts.
 Ø Dial "112" as the single "Emergency number" in India has been approved by Telecom communication  . Those who are in emergency situations will be able to get all services like Police, fire department ,ambulance etc  by just dialing this single 112 number
Ø In developed countries like USA  emergency number  "911" and  United Kingdom emergency number "999"  are already in use .
 Ø India's  Biggest Defense Expo 2016 has begun in Goa on March 28 which will end in March 31. (4 days) . This Expo was inaugurated by Union Defense minister Manohar Parikar . This is the 1st time Defense Expo being organized outside New Delhi.
             Defense Expo 2016 is the 9th edition of biennial (Once in 2 years) land, Naval and Homeland security systems Exhibition. Theme of this years Expo is "Rise of Futurism"  with vision to make India prosperous by establishing world class science and technology base in defense sector .



  Ø India has been ranked at the 90th place in a list of 126 countries on the basis of their ability to deliver  secure, affordable and sustainable energy . This list was revealed by Global Energy Architecture Performance Index Report compiled by World Economic Forum. Top 3 counties in the list are Switzerland(1) , Norway(2) , Sweden(3).

  Ø First Raisina-Dialogue 2016  , a flag ship conference on Geopolitics and Geo-economics held  in New Delhi from March 1st to 5th  . This three day conference is joint initiative of Union Ministry of External Affairs ( UMEA) and Observer Research Foundation(ORF) , an independent think tank of India.
→ The theme of Raisina Dialogue 2016 is "Asia: Regional and Global Connectivity"

  Ø "National Conference on Women Legislators: Building Resurgent India " began in Delhi on March 5th was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukerjee . The two day conference will provide women legislators a platform to interact with their counter parts from across the country.

  Ø "World Wildlife Day (WWD) is celebrated on 3rd March this year also with the theme of "The future of wild life is in our hands".  Every year 3rd March is celebrated as World Wildlife day to raise awareness of the world's wild fauna and flora. It calls for taking urgent steps to fight wild life crime which has wide ranging environmental, economic and social impacts.
 Ø March 15th is celebrated as "World consumer rights day" . It's significance is to provide  opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers and demand those rights that  must be respected and protected and also for those protesting against market abuses and social injustices.

ØIndian Space Research Organization, ISRO has successfully installed Gadanki Ionospheric Radar Interferometer(GIRI) Radar System    at National Atmospheric research laboratory , NARL  near Tirupathi.   GIRI Radar system primary objective is to carry out unattended observations for studying the forcing from sun  , like  variation in solar flare, solar flux, and magnetic storm on the ionospheric irregularities.
§  It's application is on investigations made using the system are expected to improve Equatorial Plasma Bubble forecasting.

Ø An unmanned spacecraft named "ExoMars 2016" was successfully launched jointly by Europe and Russia to search for bio signature on Mars( Martian life) in past or present. It is the 1st of two phase of ExoMars program.
o   This space craft was launched on a porton - M rocket operated by Russia Roscosmos  from Baikonur, Kazakhistan.

Ø Indigenously developed , nuclear capable , surface to surface ballistic missile AGNI-I was successfully test fired off the Odisha coast as part of training exercise by SFC of Indian Army.
o   Agni I is the first missile of Agni Series launched in 1983 by DRDO  as part of Integrated Missile development program me in India.

Ø India's first Indigenous rotavirus vaccine , ROTAVAC  to combat infant mortality due to diarrhea is launched  by Ministry of Health and Family welfare minister J.P.Nadda  as part of Universal immunization programme (UIP) . ROTAVAC  vaccine is administered to infants  in 3 doses at ages of 6, 10 and 14 weeks.
 o   Rotavac vaccine is addition to the 3 new vaccines introduced by Government as par of country’s UIP , These 3 other vaccines are  Inactivated Polio |Vaccine(IPV, Measles, Rubella (MR) Vaccine and Adult Japanese Encephalitis (JE) Vaccine.

  Ø Film Scholar PK Nair (Parmesh Krishnan Nair) passed away on March 4th in Maharashtra . He had won epithet of 'celluloid man' for his life long dedication towards the acquisition and preservation of cinematic heritage of the country.

     Ø Anita Brookner(87). a renowned British author and art historian has passed away . She has won man Booker awards in 1984 for her famous novel Hotel du Lac .
     -Anita Brookner was also awarded Commander of the order of the British Empire in 1990 and James Tait Black memorial Prize in 2010

Ø Lloyd Stowell Shapley(92) , a Nobel prize winning Economist has passed away on 12th March 2016

Ø He was considered as one of the "Fathers of Game Theory"and he also contributed in the fields of mathematical economics .
o   He has received Nobel Prize in 2012 along with Alvin E Roth in Economic sciences for the theory of stable allocations and the practice of market design.

 Nandita Bakhshi  in several executive posts at Washington Mutual in Seattle(WASH), FleetBoston(Bank of America) , First Data corp, Home savings of America and Bank One Corp. She is recipient of New England news "women of the year "ward for the year 2002.

H Depp Saini , noted Indian scholar and plant physiologist has been appointed as 5th VC (vice chancellor) of Australia's prestigious University of Canberra . 
-Earlier he had received many awards including Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
 Surya Deva, an Indian born academician is appointed as United Nations, UN Adviser on Human rights and Businesses by UNHRC for the Asia-Pacific . He is one of the founding Editor in chief of Business and Human Rights Journal.

Asian Development Bank (ADB) and USAID  have inked MoU(Memorandum of Understanding) for the development of Solar Parks across India which is worth 848 million US dollars.This is initially targeted in state of Rajasthan and will finance government of India's renewable energy targets.

  Ø First Raisina-Dialogue 2016  , a flag ship conference on Geopolitics and Geo-economics held  in New Delhi from March 1st to 5th  .   Ø West Indies has won the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup 2016  by defeating India in the final match which was held in Bangladesh.
Player of the tournament was the  Mehidy Hasan Miraz of Bangladesh

Ø Pietro Fitipadi, Brazilian Racer has won the 2015 MRF Challenge Formula 2000 Championship . He earned 244 points in total and stood top among other racers. Tatiana Calderon , Colombian Racer has finished in 2nd position with total 199 points.                                                                                                                    It is the 4th Edition of MRF Challenge Formula 2000 Championship which began at Yas Marin Circuit in Abu Dhabi in October 2015 and ended in January 31st 2016 at Madras Motor Racing track.

Novak Djokovic(Serbia) has won the 2016 Australian Open Men’s singles Title of Tennis by defeating Andy Murray(Britain) in the final match on January 31 st. This is his 6th Australian Open Title which he had earlier won in 2008,2011,2012,2013,2015.

  Ø South Asian Games (SAG), 12th edition has begun in Guwahati, Assam at the Indira Gandhi Atletics Stadium. Over 2500 athletes from 8 SAARC counties are participating in the 288 events of this SAG.
Ø  Joshna Chinappa , Indian ace squash player has won Gold Medal  in the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) in the women’s singles match by defeating  Pakistan player Maria Wazir .
Ø  Sapna Devi, of India has won Gold medal in  women Wushu Taulu  ( Changquan) competition a the 12th South Asian Games (SAG)  scoring 9.45 pts.
                  -Wushu sports is an exhibition and full contact sport derived from traditional Chinese martial arts .
Ø  Pakistan Cricket Umpire , Asad Rauf  has been banned for 5 years by BCCI after he was found guilty of corrupt practices.This decision has been announced by BCCI President Shashank Manohar who headed disciplinary committee.
      -Earlier Asad Rauf  served as part of ICC elite panel . He was withdrawn by Pakistan after allegations against him broke out.

  Ø Sunil Lamba ( Vice Admiral) took over as Flag Officer Commanding in Chief (FOC-in-C) of Mumbai Western Naval Comman(WNC) , Mumbai at a ceremonial parade organized at INS Shikra. Prior to this appointment Sunil Lamba was Commander in chief of Southern Naval Command at Kochi. He took over the charge from SPS Cheema who had to retire.

  Ø K Durga Prasad, is appointed as Director General (DG) of Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF). Earlier he worked as Director of Special protection Group and also as Special director general of the CRPF.

Ø Rajendra K Pachauri is appointed as Executive Vice Chairman of TERI ( The Energy Resources institute ).
 - TERI is a non profit research institution that conducts research work  in the fields of energy , environment and sustainable development.

Archana Ramasundaram(58) has become th 1st Woman Director General of Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) . She will be in office till 20 September 2016 .  Prior to this appointment she worked as Director for National Crime Record Bureau.


  Ø  Davinder Singh, Indian- origin lawyer becomes Vice-Chairman of  International Chamber of Corporate responsibility and Anti-corruption Commerce (ICC ) commission.
         Davinder Singh is currently working as Chief Executive of  Drew & Napier, who was also a MPnof Singapore from 1988-2006.
          
Ø  Harinder Sindhu , an Indian origin  Australian has been been appointed as Australian High Commissioner to India  replacing  Patrick Suckling.   She is 2nd Indian rooted  envoy to India with Indian roots after Peter Varghese.
-   Prior to this appointment she was working as  Career officer in Department of foreign affairs and trade.

 Christine Lagarde (60) of France has been appointed as Managing Director of IMF( International Monetary Fund) for the 2nd Five year term. Her new term will start from 5th July 2016 till 2021 .

Ø  IMF is an organization of 188 countries in the world , working to encourage global monetary cooperation, facilitate international trade, etc. whose headquarters is located in Washington D.C ( USA)

Ø  Ashok Chawla has been appointed as Chairman of TERI( The Energy and Resources Institute)  who will succeed B V Sreekantan  .  Ashok Chawla  is former chairman of Competition Commission of India (CCI) .
-  TERI  aims to focus on formulating local and national level strategies for shaping global solutions to critical issues.
 Ø Vilas A.Tonapi appointed as Director of Indian Institute of Millet's Research (IIMR) which is the central agency to work on all aspects of millets research and development under the aegis of Indian council Of Agricultural Research(ICAR).
-  Main center of IIMR is located in Hyderabad(Telangana) and two other center's at Solapur (Maharashtra) and Warangal (Telangana)
          
 Ø Kalilkho Pul has become the 9th Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh after Governor JP Rajkhowa used his discretionary powers to appoint him.
-    In December 2015 , of the 60 MLA’s of State Assembly 21 out of 45 ruling Congress party MLA’s rebelled ( act against) along with 11 BJP and 2 Independent MLA and extended support to Kalikho PUl to form new government.
  
Ø Indian Origin Amar Singh is appointed as Police Commissioner of Malaysia Capital city Kuala Lumpur . Prior to this appointment he was working as Deputy director of CID .

  Ø Reserve Bank of India rates in its 6th bi monthly monetary policy review for year 2016 has kept its key policy interest rates unchanged . So the  unchanged at previous rates as follows a) Repo Rate-6.75 percent b)Reverse Repo Rate-5.75 percent C) Bank Rate - 7.75 percent D) Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) – 4.0 percent

Ø Telecom Regulatory Authority of India , TRAI has issued Prohibition of Discriminatory Tariffs for Data Services Regulations,2016  which  prevents Telecom service providers from offering or charging discriminatory tariffs for data services on basis of content accessed by consumer  

  Ø (Wipro Ltd , India's 3rd largest IT exporter has acquired United States based HealthPlan Services for 460 million dollars  as part of Wipro traditional "String of pearls" .
             This acquisition will help Wipro to participate in US health care insurance industry.

  Ø Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) of Union government of India has approved Kerala governments proposal on setting up India’s First Defense Park at Ottapalam in , Kerala.
 -  This park will be part of Make in India Programme and Make in Kerala programme

Ø India and Afghanistan have signed an agreement for visa free travel for diplomatic passport holders of the two countries. This agreement has been signed after Afghanistan Government Chief Executive officer, Abdullah Abdullah met Indian Prime minister and External affairs minister.
  
Ø  Surajkund International Crafts Mela (30th Edition) begins at Faridabad in Haryana State. The Mela is inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minsiter Manohar Lal Lhattar. -Telangana is theme State and India and China are two countries

Ø  National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) permanent campus in Jatani , near Bhubaneswar(Odisha) is inaugurated by Narenda Modi .
-  Objective of NISER is to train and nurture human resources in the field of Sciences for the knowledge economies of the future.
Ø  Union  Railway ministry has launched 3 IT enabled  apps to bring transparency in Indian Railways as part of Digital India, launched by Railway minster Suresh Prabhu.
-   The 3 IT enabled applications (apps) are a)  E-booking of disposable linen on trains b)Hand held terminals for TTEs and c) paperless unreserved tickets booking
Ø Basmati Rice gets Geographical Indication Tag (GI) for the approved 7 states. This Tag will be issued to Basmati rice variety which is grown in 7 states in the Indo-Gangetic plains i.e Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, UP, J&K.
Ø This GI Tag would help to preserve unique identity of India’s aromatic basmati rice in International markets.
Ø Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited, (BHEL) has started a 101 Mega Watt gas based Power Plant in Tripura .
  Ø  Prime Minister Modi has  inaugurated "Make in India" Center at MMRDA grounds in Mumbai. On this occasion, Finland PM Juha Petri Sipila and Sweden PM Kjell Lofven were also present along with Maharashtra CM Fadnavis.
     -Modi also inaugurated  "Make in India Week"  at NSCI  Worli which is the flagship event that seeks to provide greater momentum to the Make in India initiative and to promote India as a preferred manufacturing destination globally.

Ø  Project SURISE has been launched for prevention of AIDS in the North East States of India ,specially among people injecting drugs by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, J P Nadda.
-  Project sunrise aims to bring people living with HIV/AIDS in to national mainstream and create more awareness about AIDS in these North East States
 Ø  International Fleet Review 2016 (IFR) which is an international military exercise hosted and conducted by Indian Navy is inaugurated in Visahkapatnam of Andhra Pradesh . This edition of IFR is themed “United through Oceans”
-   This 4 day review from 4th February to 8th February aims at assuring the country of Indian Navy’s preparedness, high morale and discipline
Ø Bihar becomes 6th state to Join UDAY ( Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana) scheme for financial restructuring of debt of power distribution companies.
-   Before Bihar, 5 other states which joined UDAY scheme are Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
Ø  Union Government of India has launched a 24X7 Toll free multi-language tourist information line for international tourist in 12 international languages besides English and Hindi which are namely  French, Arabic, Italian, German , Korean, Japanese, Portugese, Chinese, Russian and Spanish.
   -This toll free help line will provide information relating to tourism and travel in India to the international and domestic tourists.

ØSudhir Tailang (56), a noted Indian Cartoonist has passed away on 6th January because of cancer in Gurgaon, Haryana.
-  He was conferred with India’s 4th highest civilian award Padma Shri in the year 2004 for h is contribution in the art of Cartooning.
Ø  American Singer and writer Dan Hicks(74) passed away on February 6th after battle with cancer . his last albums was Live at Davies which was released in 2013

Ø  United States Astronaut, Edgar Mitchell who was the 6th man to walk on the moon has passed away in Florida,US.
-  As a Module Pilot of Apllo 14 mission, he had spent 9 hours on moon in the year 1971
Ø  Panchayati Raj Minster Kailash Yadav(65) of Uttar Pradesh state has passed away in Gurgaon on 9th February due to brain stroke.
 -  He worked as Revenue and Industrial development in Mulayam Singh government from 2003 to 2007.
Ø Former Prime Minster , Sushil Koirala (79) of Nepal has passed away on 9th February due to pneumonia in Kathmandu.  He was the 37th prime minster of Nepal from  February 2014 to September 2015 as leader of Nepali Congress(NC).
-  During his tenure as PM, 4 major political parties reached an agreement which resulted in unopposed adaptation of New Republic Constitution of Nepal.
Ø  Renowned Urdu Poet and Lyricist , Nida Fazli (78) passed away on 8th February due to heart attack in Mumbai.  His famous works include Lafzon ke phool, Mor naach, Mulaaten etc. and he received Khusro Award , Best poetry award from Maharashtra urdu Academy , Sahitya Akademi Award(1998)
    Ø Indian Ambassador to Tajikistan , Biraja Prasad passed away to due cardiac arrest . He was the youngest IFS officer to be appointed as India's ambassador to any country.
-         After joining as Indian Foreign Service , IFS officer in 1998 he worked in various diplomatic assignments  and worked as undersecretary to  Russia,  West Europe etc.
    ØN V Kurup (84), a noted malayalam poet and lyricist passed away in thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. ONV, Ottaplakkal Nambiyadikkal Velu Kurup  was awarded Kerala and Kendriya saahitya academy awards and Padmashri in  1998, Padma Vibhushan in 2011.
-      -He was awarded with country's highest literary award  Jnanpith award in 2007 for his contribution to the malayalam literature.

Ø Banaras Hindu University, BHU has turned 100 years  which was established  on 13th February, 1916 by Indian freedom fighter Pt Madan Mohan Malviya.  The Motto of BHU is  Vidyaya mritamasnute(Sanskrit) , "Knowledge imparts immortality"(English)

Ø India and chine troops have held their first joint tactical exercise code named Sino- India Cooperation 2016 in Chushul- Moldo in Jammu and Kashmir.
-  Sino-India Cooperation 2016 is mainly focused on Joint actions coordinated to tackle the aspects of humanitarian aid and disaster relief.
Ø  Pakistan Parliament house, located in capital Islamabad becomes 1st in world to run entirely on Solar Power. This project is supported by China by contribution of 55 million dollars after Chinese President Xi Jinping visted and addressed Pakistan Parliament in 2014 .

Ø  February 10th  has been  Celebrated as “National Deworming Day”   which aims to prevent and cure  Parasitic worm infectons among pre school and school age children across India.

-         Under this MoU , these 3 North American Countries will share information in key areas  of clean energy technologies, low carbon electricity , energy efficiency,carbon capture, climate change adaptation, etc.


Ø 3 MoU's  have been signed on the Day 1 of the "Make in India week" in Mumbai.
-   Sterilite Group has inked MoU with Maharasthra to set up an LCD manufacturing unit, Raymond Industries inked MoU with Mahashtra toinvest 1400 crore rupees for manufacturing abric, linen yarn and garmenting , hindustan Coca Cola inked MoU with Mahrashtra to set up Juice manufacturing facility in Vidarbha .
Ø India and Sweden have inked MoU on Technical Cooperation in Rail Sector . The main objective of it is to achieve concrete results with regard to bilateral trade, research , investment and technology transfer.
