1) Christine Lagarde (60) of France has been appointed as Managing Director of IMF( International Monetary Fund) for the 2nd Five year term. Her new term will start from 5th July 2016 till 2021 .

- IMF is an organization of 188 countries in the world , working to encourage global monetary cooperation, facilitate international trade, etc. whose headquarters is located in Washington D.C ( USA)





2) Kalilkho Pul has become the 9th Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh after Governor JP Rajkhowa used his discretionary powers to appoint him.

- In December 2015 , of the 60 MLA’s of State Assembly 21 out of 45 ruling Congress party MLA’s rebelled ( act against) along with 11 BJP and 2 Independent MLA and extended support to Kalikho PUl to form new government.


3) Sameer Anjan, famous Bollywood Lyricist has created world record by composing 3524 songs in 650 Movies. Guinness Book recorded as the Most prolific Bollywood lyricist.

4) “Swachh Himachal Padhai bhi Safai bhi “ campaign is launched by Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) in Dharmasala.

- HPCA becomes the first cricket association to work towards Swatch Bharat Abhiyan , an initiation by Union government

5) Pakistan Parliament house, located in capital Islamabad becomes 1st in world to run entirely on Solar Power .
- This project was supported by China by contribution of 55 million dollars after Chinese President Xi Jinping visted and addressed Pakistan Parliament in 2014 .

6) Indian origin Ismail Mohammed conferred with Knighthood by French government for his lifelong contribution to promotion of arts .
- He was bestowed with Knight of the Order of Arts and Literature by France Ambassador Elisabet Barbier .

7) Controller General of Patents , Design and Trademarks (CGPDTM) has issued an order excluding software patents in its revised guidelines for computer Related Inventions (CRI)

- Implication : Software developers and star ups will now have freedom to innovate without worrying about infringement notices in CRI area




8) Indian Origin Amar Singh is appointed as Police Commissioner of Malaysia Capital city Kuala Lumpur . Prior to this appointment he was working as Deputy director of CID .

9) Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) has inked MoU with Dubai exports to boost the trade and explore business opportunities.
- CII is a NGO of Indian Businesses which works to create conductive environment for the growth of industries in the country.

10) Bihar becomes 6th state to Join UDAY ( Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana) scheme for financial restructuring of debt of power distribution companies.
- Before Bihar, 5 other states which joined UDAY scheme are Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

1.Vilas A.Tonapi appointed as Director of Indian Institute of Millet's Research (IIMR) which is the central agency to work on all aspects of millets research and development under the aegis of Indian
council Of Agricultural Research(ICAR).
- Main center of IIMR is located in Hyderabad(Telangana) and two other center's at Solapur (Maharashtra) and Warangal (Telangana)

 2. " Nagaland is Changing , But ..." film has won Golden Beaver best film award in the institutional category at the 6th National Science Film festival held in Mumbai.
-The movie is based on conservation efforts by villagers and has been directed by Gurmeet Sapal , produced by Nagaland Forest  Department.

3.Vidya Balan is felicitated with "Pride of Kerala" award by world Malayalee council and Kairali
TV .Vidya balan has featured in various big movies like Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, The Dirty Picture.
- Vidya Balan also received Padma Shri in 2014.








4. Indian Ambassador to Tajikistan , Biraja Prasad passed away to due cardiac arrest . He was the youngest IFS officer to be appointed as India's ambassador to any country.
- After joined as Indian Foreign Service , IFS officer in 1998 he worked in various diplomatic assignments  and worked as undersecretary to  Russia,  West Europe etc.


5. US, Canada and Mexico have signed MoU( Memorandum of Understanding) on Climate Changes and Energy  collaboration .
- Under this MoU , these 3 North American Countries will share information in key areas  of clean energy technologies, low carbon electricity , energy efficiency,carbon capture, climate change adaptation, etc.



6. West Indies has won the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup 2016  by defeating India in the final match which was held in Bangladesh.
- Player of the tournament was the  Mehidy Hasan Miraz of Bangladesh



7.  3 MoU's  have been signed on the Day 1 of the "Make in India week" in Mumbai.
-  Sterilite Group has inked MoU with Maharasthra to set up an LCD manufacturing unit, Raymond Industries inked MoU with Mahashtra toinvest 1400 crore rupees for manufacturing abric, linen yarn and garmenting , hindustan Coca Cola inked MoU with Mahrashtra to set up Juice manufacturing facility in Vidarbha .

8. Tiruchirapalli  City of Tamilnadu has won Best City  performer in Behavioral Change Communication Award presented by Nankiah Naidu in the Swach Sarvekshan Function.

9. India and Sweden have inked MoU on Technical Cooperation in Rail Sector . The main objective of it is to achieve concrete results with regard to bilateral trade, research , investment and technology transfer.

10. Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited, (BHEL) has started a 101 Mega Watt gas based Power Plant in Tripura .

1.  O N V Kurup (84), a noted malayalam poet and lyricist passed away in thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. ONV, Ottaplakkal Nambiyadikkal Velu Kurup  was awarded Kerala and Kendriya saahitya academy awards and Padmashri in  1998, Padma Vibhushan in 2011.
-  He was awarded with country's highest literary award  Jnanpith award in 2007 for his contribution to the malayalam literature.





2.  Banaras Hindu University, BHU has turned 100 years  which was established  on 13th February, 1916 by Indian freedom fighter Pt Madan Mohan Malviya.  The Motto of BHU is  Vidyaya mritamasnute(Sanskrit) , "Knowledge imparts immortality"(English)
- On this occasion, Supreme court judge Pinaki Chandra Ghosh was the Chief guest who will attend seminar on higher education and contribution of BHU .





3. Ashok Chawla has been appointed as Chairman of TERI( The Energy and Resources Institute)  who will succeed B V Sreekantan  .  Ashok Chawla  is former chairman of Competition Commission of India (CCI) .
- TERI  aims to focus on formulating local and national level strategies for shaping global solutions to critical issues.








4. Prime Minister Modi has  inaugurated "Make in India" Center at MMRDA grounds in Mumbai. On this occasion, Finland PM Juha Petri Sipila and Sweden PM Kjell Lofven were also present along with Maharashtra CM Fadnavis.
-Modi also inaugurated  "Make in India Week"  at NSCI  Worli  which is the flagship event that seeks to provide greater momentum to the Make in India initiative and to promote India as a preferred manufacturing destination globally.


5. Pakistan Cricket Umpire , Asad Rauf  has been banned for 5 years by BCCI after he was found guilty of corrupt practices.This decision has been announced by BCCI President Shashank Manohar who headed disciplinary committee.
- Earlier Asad Rauf  served as part of ICC elite panel . He was withdrawn by Pakistan after allegations against him broke out.

held in Dubai, which is received by Karnataka e-governance secretary  Srivatsa Kirshna


-  m-governance model of Karnataka is world's largest multimode mobile governance platform  which offers 4,500 services onto single integrated platform that can be accessed on smart phones, web portal , sms .







(5)Wipro Ltd , India's 3rd largest IT exporter has acquired United States based HealthPlan Services for 460 million dollars  as part of Wipro traditional "String of pearls" .
- This acquisition will help Wipro to participate in US health care insurance industry.

(6) Harinder Sindhu , an Indian origin  Australian has been been appointed as Australian High Commissioner to India  replacing  Patrick Suckling.   She is 2nd Indian rooted  envoy to India with Indian roots after Peter Varghese.
- Prior to this appointment she was working as  Career officer in Department of foreign affairs and trade.

     7) Former Prime Minster , Sushil Koirala (79) of Nepal has passed away on 9th February due to pneumonia in Kathmandu.  He was the 37th prime minster of Nepal from  February 2014 to September 2015 as leader of Nepali Congress(NC).
        -  During his tenure as PM, 4 major political parties reached an agreement which resulted in unopposed adaptation of New Republic Constitution of Nepal.

-This GI Tag would help to preserve unique identity of India’s aromatic basmati rice in International markets.


7) Project SURISE has been launched for prevention of AIDS in the North East States of India ,specially among people injecting drugs by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, J P Nadda.
- Project sunrise aims to bring people living with HIV/AIDS in to national mainstream and create more awareness about AIDS in these North East States

8) International Fleet Review 2016 (IFR) which is an international military exercise hosted and conducted by Indian Navy is inaugurated in Visahkapatnam of Andhra Pradesh . This edition of IFR is themed “United through Oceans”
- This 4 day review from 4th February to 8th February aims at assuring the country of Indian Navy’s preparedness, high morale and discipline



9) United States Astronaut, Edgar Mitchell who was the 6th man to walk on the moon has passed away in Florida,US.
- As a Module Pilot of Apllo 14 mission, he had spent 9 hours on moon in the year 1971







10) South Asian Games (SAG), 12th edition has begun in Guwahati, Assam at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium.

1) Pietro Fitipadi, Brazilian Racer has won the 2015 MRF Challenge Formula 2000 Championship . He earned 244 points in total and stood top among other racers. Tatiana Calderon , Colombian Racer has finished in 2nd position with total 199 points. –It is the 4th Edition of MRF Challenge Formula 2000 Championship which began at Yas Marin Circuit in Abu Dhabi in October 2015 and ended in January 31st 2016 at Madras Motor Racing track.

2) Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) of Union government of India has approved Kerala governments proposal on setting up India’s First Defense Park at Ottapalam in , Kerala.
- This park will be part of Make in India Programme and Make in Kerala programme


3) Novak Djokovic(Serbia) has won the 2016 Australian Open Men’s singles Title of Tennis by defeating Andy Murray(Britain) in the final match on January 31 st. This is his 6th Australian Open Title which he had earlier won in 2008,2011,2012,2013,2015.






4) Sunil Lamba ( Vice Admiral) took over as Flag Officer Commanding in Chief (FOC-in-C) of Mumbai Western Naval Comman(WNC) , Mumbai at a ceremonial parade organized at INS Shikra. Prior to this appointment Sunil Lamba was Commander in chief of Southern Naval Command at Kochi. He took over the charge from SPS Cheema who had to retire.

5) India and Afghanistan have signed an agreement for visa free travel for diplomatic passport holders of the two countries. This agreement has been signed after Afghanistan Governament Chief Executive officer, Abdullah Abdullah met Indian Prime minister and External affairs minister.

6) Surajkund International Crafts Mela (30th Edition) begins at Faridabad in Haryana State. The Mela is inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minsiter Manohar Lal Lhattar. -Telangana is theme State and India and China are two countries



7) Kidambi Srikanth ( India) won the Syed Modi International Grand Prix Gold Championship Badminton title 2016 in Men’s singles category defeating Chinese player Huang Yuxiang in the final match played at Lucknow (UP).








8) K Durga Prasad, is appointed as Director General (DG) of Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF). Earlier he worked as Director of Special protection Group and also as Special director general of the CRPF.

9) Reserve Bank of India rates in its 6th bi monthly monetary policy review for year 2016 has kept its key policy interest rates unchanged . So the  unchanged at previous rates as follows a) Repo Rate-6.75 percent b)Reverse Repo Rate-5.75 percent C) Bank Rate - 7.75 percent D) Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) – 4.0 percent





10) Archana Ramasundaram(58) has become th 1st Woman Director General of Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) . She will be in office till 20 September 2016 . _ Prior to this appointment she worked as Director for National Crime Record Bureau.

8) Ganga Gram Yojana to develop 1600 villages in UP situated along banks of Ganga River has been launched by Union minster for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Uma bharti at Puth Village in Hapur district of UP.

9) Flippo Grandi (Italy) becomes new UN High Commissioner for Refuges (UNHCR) for a tenure of 5 years succeeding Antonio Guterres.

10) Union Government has approved creation of a Credit Guarantee fund for MUDRA loans. MUDRA stands for Micro Units Development Refinance Agency.

3) Shyam Bengal committee constituted to revamp the Central Board of Film Certification ,CBFC.

4) Telangana government launched e- Vahan Bima Scheme to issue motor insurance policy in digital form. With this Telangana became first state in country to accept motor vehicle insurance policy in digital form.

5) 4th January is celebrated as World Braille Day to mark birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the inventor of Braille script . Braille script or code is language that could be felt and once can read anything without seeing (Blind People code)

6) AB Bardhan (92), a Veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader passed away in Mumbai. He has been a leading figure of the trade union movement and left politics in India

7) India has won 2015 SAFF football championship for record 7th time. In the final match played at Thiruvananthapuram( Kerala) India defeated defending champion Afghanistan by 2-1.

8) RK Mathur sworn in as 8th Chief Information Commissioner of Central Information commission.

9) Abid Ali Neemuchwala appointed as CEO of Wipro

10) Reserve Bank of India has imposed 1 crore fine on State Bank of Travencore for violation of some of its instructions.

1) RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan is conferred with Central Banker of the Year Award (Global and Asia Pacific) for the year 2016.

2) Devendra Kumar Sikri is appointed as Chairman of CCI ( Competitive commission of India) for a tenure of two and half years succeeding present Chairman Ashok Chawla.

3) Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) is merged with Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) . This decision is taken to avoid duplication of work and to improve efficiency as announced by Sushma Swaraj.

4) River Information System (RIS) was launched by Government to facilitate safe and accurate inland water way navigation . In first phase it will cover 145 km Haldia to Farakka on Ganges river which is implemented by Inland Waterway Authority of India.

5) India’s economic growth rate is projected at 7.8% by World Bank in its Global Economic prospect report for the year 2016.

6) Jammu&Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed (79) passed away due to multiple organ failure at AIMS in New Delhi. He started second tenure as CM on March 1st , 2015 from Peoples Democratic party (PDP)

7) Sam Pitroda has been appointed as Technology Advisor to Odisha government . Sam Pitroda is famously known as Father of Indian telecommunications revolution.

8) Drug Authentication and Verification Application project of Department of commerce has won 2015 eASIA award under Trade Facilitation category.

9) Indi’s Petronet LNG ink revised contract with RasGas of Qatar to import gas at a significantly lower price than earlier. The new rate would save consumer around 4000 crore.

10) Harpal Singh, an Indian origin cancer expert is honored with KNIGHTOOD from Queen Elizabeth II for his influential work on prevention and treatment of cancer. Harpal singh is the Chairman of Board at national Cancer research Institute and also Chairman of Cancer Outcomes Strategy Advisory Group (COSAG) in England.
